Tant is an all-girl, Welsh Folk band that is new to the Welsh music scene. The band consists of five members, Angharad, Modlen, Elliw, Non and Siwan, each member bringing an incredible amount of creativity and individuality to the music that is played, sung and created. It is a pop/folk band that showcases the greatness of the young generation as they gain confidence to create and share their unique and quirky music to the world.

Each member brings a valuable aspect to the band, Modlen (guitar and vocals), Angharad (harp), Elliw (guitar and vocals), Non (harp and vocals) Siwan (Cajun and vocals). They are all currently students from different schools across North Wales. Angharad, Modlen and Elliw are pupils in Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy, Non is a pupil at Ysgol y Creuddyn and Siwan is a pupil ar Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni. Because they are from different parts of North Wales they are able to gig in a variety of places.

The girls started performing as a group in 2016 whilst on the Trac folk music course Gwerin Gwallgof in Glan Llyn, since then they have performed numerous times and have recently been nominated for the Wobrau Gwerin Cymru in Cardiff. For three years in a row, Tant has performed in Dolgellau for Sesiwn Fawr and have later returned to Dolgellau to join Bwncath for a night in Ty Siamas. Tant has also featured on the TV series ‘Noson Llawen’ performing one of their original songs ‘I NI’. They have played with the artist from Aberystwyth, Georgia Ruth, in Galeri Caernarfon. Moreover, Tant was apart of the Day to Celebrate the Harp (Diwrnod i Dathlu’r Delyn) in Glasdir Llanrwst and were joined by Myrddin ap Dafydd, Elinor Bennett, Robin Huw Bowen, Gwenan Gibbard, Dylan Cernyw, Dafydd Huw and many others.

Currently, Tant has two songs released with Recordiau Sain, ‘Bywyd Rhy Fyr’ and ‘I NI’, the songs were released on the 12th of October 2018. ‘I NI’ was written by Rhun ap Iorwerth, who is Siwan’s father, while ‘Bywyd Rhy Fyr’ was written by Modlen. Both songs are an accurate representation of a traditional and modern pop Welsh music combination. The girls also perform a variety of covers of Welsh pop songs and traditional Welsh songs. Their first cover together was ‘Llwytha’r Gwn’ by Candelas, as they have developed they have begun doing covers of Meic Stevens, Gwylim Bowen and other artists and folk songs.
